Introduction
Forest resources are an important open and shared natural heritage. Forests are also the foundational pillar for agriculture, tourism, water resources, industry, etc., which serve as the backbone for Nepal's economic development. For the protection, promotion, and proper utilization of forest areas, in 2040 B.S., a policy was formulated to establish 5 Regional Forest Directorates and District Forest Offices in all 75 districts, in accordance with the spirit and essence of decentralization.
Prior to the implementation of the Decentralization Act, 2039 B.S., the protection, promotion, and proper utilization of the forest area in this district was managed by the Birgunj Division Forest Office. The District Forest Office was established in Parsa district in the year 2040 B.S. Following the implementation of the federal structure in the country, this office has been named the Division Forest Office, Parsa, effective from 2074/04/01 B.S.
Although the total forest area in Parsa district is 73,250 hectares, only 11,527.47 hectares fall under the jurisdiction of the Division Forest Office; the remaining parts fall within the jurisdiction of Chitwan National Park and Parsa National Park.
